All of our Social Events will take place in the Sandhurst Social Club, 33/35 Wellington Road, Sandhurst, GU47 9AW unless otherwise stated. CLICK HERE for a map and more details of this location.

1 - All YOSC Members and their guests visiting Sandhurst Social Club are required to SIGN IN on the sheet provided.  Failure to do so may result in delays to the start of our events.

Our new joint Social Secretaries, Joan Evans and Jill Mahew have taken over the role from Sara Smith to ensure a successful Social Programme during 2011.

Details are shown below and will be amended here and in the Newsletters from time to time.  CLICK HERE to download a summary.  All Meetings start at 20:00 unless otherwise stated.

  • 10 January - David Cusworth, Crew Recruitment Manager of Clipper Round the World Yacht Race will talk about 1 circumnavigation, 10 ocean racing yachts, 40,000 miles, 15 races, 13 countries raced by people like you
  • 7 February - Roger Shaw with a talk entitled ”Lessons learnt or disasters I just avoided!”  Roger is Commodore of Henley Offshore Group and has sailed over 22,000 miles in the Baltic, South Coast of England, USA and recently completed a three year cruise from Plymouth to Corfu
  • 7 March - YOSC Member, Ed Essery will present  “A south coast sailor ventures north...”  an illustrated talk about sailing on Scorpio, his Hanse 342, for three months in what many consider to be the best cruising grounds in the UK - the west coast of Scotland
  • 4 April - Slieve McGalliard with an informal talk about his home designed junk rig. Slieve is a member of the Junk Rig Association.  See their Website at:

  • 9 May - Nigel Snell of the Southern England Kite Group (SEKG)will tell us about monitoring the Red Kite population in the Chilterns and surrounding area.

  • 6 June - YOSC Quiz Night plus “Play Your Cards Right” organised by Malcolm Cross.  Nibbles will be provided in the interval
  • 4 July - Tristan Gooley with a talk entitled “The Wonderful World of Natural Navigation”. Tristan is the founder of a natural navigation school, to research and teach natural navigation - the art of being able to find your way solely by using  nature using the sun, moon, stars, weather, water, land, sea, plants and animals.
  • 5 August - YOSC Summer Barbecue at Blackwater Valley Golf Centre, Chandlers Lane, Yateley starts at 19:30. Please let Social Secretary Joan or Jill know if you require tickets at £6.50 each and if you have any dietary requirements.

  • 5 September - Alex Adrian of the Crown Estate, Marine with a talk entitled “Aquaculture...”
  • 3 October - Adam Reay of Lymington Town Sailing Club will talk about “U-Boats in WW2”
  • 7 November - YOSC AGM - Reports from the Club Officers, presentation of Accounts, election of the 2012 Committee and presentation of cups and awards followed by an informal discussion
  • 8 October - 20th Anniversary Event at The Royal Maritime Club, Portsmouth. CLICK HERE for more details including: location, map, accommodation, car parking, boat berthing, menu and ticket arrangements
  • 14 November - DATE CHANGE - Beer & Skittles - Details and venue to be announced
  • 12 December - YOSC Christmas Party

burgee  The 2012 Social Programme:

Joan and Jill have arranged the Social Programme for 2012.

The provisional details are shown below and will be amended here and in the Newsletters from time to time. All Meetings are at Sandhurst Soicial Club and start at 20:00 unless otherwise stated.

  • 9 January - Table-top Sale & Video Clips - An opportunity to sell your surplus sailing clothing, equipment, boat parts, sailing books etc. on your own table or donate items to the YOSC table run by Dave Dray. Kevin Morgan will show sailing video clips on the big screen including “Round Cape Horn”
  • 6 February - Nigel Snell returns to YOSC with a talk entitled “Tall Ships” based on his experiences as a deckhand during several trips to the West Indies sailing with volunteers aged from 16 to 70. This talk has shots of many of the islands and day to day work on deck and aloft. A few warming moments on a grey winter's day.
  • 5 March - National Coastwatch, David Russell
  • 2 April - Surveys, Peter Hall
  • 14 May - Mary Rose, Trevor Sapey
  • 11 June - Quiz Night
  • 2 July - East Coast Cruise, Chris Darley
  • 6 August- BBQ
